In addition to the flexible control of the actuation using valves, pressure sensors, and optical analysis, etc., a common problem regularly faced in a within customized micro reaction systems is the requirement for heating and cooling - be it for maintaining stability during exo- or endothermal reactions or to control the state of supercritical or highly viscous fluids. More or less tight and accurate temperature control may be needed for specific elements of the system, be it reservoirs, pumps, or reactors; alternatively, the entire system may need to be kept at, or at least above, a specific temperature. Here we build on the modular approach of a set of micro reaction devices and use extensions or add-ons to provide temperature control that is flexible "across time and space".
