Microfluidics Meets Cardiovascular Biology
Bioengineered models of the human cardiovascular system held a great promise for cardiovascular research at both basic and applied levels.
Notably, microfluidic technologies facilitate the development of models that can recapitulate the structural, biophysical, and biochemical properties, and importantly the complex hemodynamics of the heart and blood vessels. Such properties can be modulated to mimic the physiological and pathophysiological characteristics of the cardiovascular system in a highly controlled fashion. This enables systematic understanding of complex molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the development of various cardiovascular diseases.
This workshop aims to bring together engineers, biomedical scientists, vascular biologists, mechanobiologists, clinicians, and industries who are interested in the development and utilization of microfluidic-based bioengineered models for advancing cardiovascular research.
