Technical Tour to HSG-IMIT
Thursday, October 31
14:15 - 16:15

HSG-IMIT is an application and product oriented R&D provider for micro engineering and lab-on-a-chip systems. It is located in Freiburg and Villingen-Schwenningen and employs 130 scientists and engineers.

In close cooperation with IMTEK, the Department of Microsystems Engineering of the University of Freiburg, HSG-IMIT offers assay automation, miniaturization and integration based on its centrifugal microfluidic platforms LabDisk and LabTube. HSG-IMIT also offers a Lab-on-a-Chip Design & Foundry Service which provides customers with all steps ranging from assay implementation such as assay specification, translation into microfluidic layout, to simulation and lab-on-a-chip prototyping up to functional testing in the S1 and S3** labs.

At the HSG-IMIT tour you will learn about and see its activities in centrifugal microfluidics:
  • A short overview about microfluidics research @ HSG-IMIT & IMTEK (Zengerle lab)
  • A short introduction to centrifugal microfluidics headed by Dr. Felix von Stetten
  • A visit in the HSG-IMIT prototyping lab where LabDisks are fabricated from a master to a functional prototype, including all relevant steps from reagent pre-storage to sealing and much more.
  • In the laboratory for system integration, researchers will explain how the LabDisk is used to detect pathogens.
At IMTEK you will see:
  • The Non-contact Microdosage group of Dr. Peter Koltay who will demonstrate how single individual living cells are printed and this way handled in an automated way.
  • The Microfluidic & Bioengineering group of Dr. Matthias Meier who will demonstrate its Microfluidic Large Scale Integration platform for characterizing biomolecular interactions and analyzing signaling pathways in cells.
HSG-IMIT is headed by the MicroTAS Chair Dr. Roland Zengerle and his IMTEK colleagues Dr. Holger Reinecke and Dr. Yiannos Manoli. HSG-IMIT is certified according to DIN ISO 9001:2008
