An Evening at the EMP Museum
Wednesday October 5
19:00 - 22:00
325 5th Avenue at Seattle Center

Museum Floorplan/Map

Please join us for an evening at the EMP Museum (music + sci-fi + pop-culture), a museum unlike any other in the world. This is a great opportunity to socialize with other attendees and guest while enjoying the museum's unique exhibits. The EMP is dedicated to the exploration of creativity and innovation in popular music. By blending interpretative, interactive exhibitions with cutting-edge technology, EMP captures and reflects the essence of rock 'n' roll, its roots in jazz, soul, gospel, country and the blues, as well as rock's influence on hip-hop, punk and other recent genres. We will view rare artifacts and memorabilia and experience the creative process by listening to musicians tell their own stories. A few of the exhibits that can be explored this evening are:
  • AVATAR: The Exhibition
Get a first-hand look inside the spectacular world of Pandora through AVATAR: The Exhibition organized by EMP. Developed in partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment, AVATAR: The Exhibition will feature authentic props and costumes, interactive displays, concept models, and sketches from the blockbuster film.

  • Battlestar Galactica: The Exhibition
Organized by EMP and in partnership with Universal Cable Productions and Syfy, Battlestar Galactica features three stunning, full-size prop spaceships, iconic costumes, new exhibition films, music and other props from the original and re-imagined series.

  • Can't Look Away: The Lure of Horror Film
Through a combination of artifacts (Alien creature suite from Alien), interactive installations (visit the Scream booth to scream along with a horror film), and screening rooms, this exhibit explores films from the last 100 years, and is a balance between classics and cult favorites, and domestic and foreign motion pictures.

  • Guitar Gallery: The Quest for Volume
Presents the history of guitar amplification, beginning with a 1770s Italian guitar and moving through the development of the instrument as it became larger, went electric, and finally came to dominate the stage as the signature instrument of rock 'n' roll.

  • Jimi Hendrix: An Evolution of Sound
Illustrates Hendrix's musical evolution from his early days in Seattle, to his time as a journeyman musician touring the southern "chitlin' circuit" and in New York City, to his explosion on the popular music scene in London and beyond. The exhibition and the visitor experience weave together the various musical styles and cultures that Hendrix soaked up throughout his all-too-short journey.

  • Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses
The world's most extensive exhibition of memorabilia celebrating the music and history of Seattle grunge luminaries, Nirvana. The exhibit features rare and unseen artifacts and photography from the band, their crews and families.

  • On Stage (Interactive Installation)
Be a rock star--even if you've never played an instrument! On Stage transports you to the center stage of a large arena, complete with smoke, hot lights and screaming fans. You and your band mates will sing and play drums, guitars and keyboards in front of a virtual audience.

  • Sound Lab (Interactive Installation)
Sound Lab invites your inner musician to come out and play! You can learn a guitar lick, mix a platinum record or perform for an audience of thousands. Sound Lab is brimming with the latest in musical gear and audio technology. Its unique multimedia interactives guide visitors through an exploration of the tools of rock 'n' roll--electric guitars, drums, samplers, mixing consoles and more.

  • Sound and Vision: Artists Tell Their Stories
This exhibit allows visitors to explore EMP|SFM's collection of videotaped oral history interviews in a comfortable, club-like setting. The first exhibition to integrate both EMP and SFM, Sound and Vision: Artists Tell Their Stories is designed to provide access to EMP|SFM's oral history program and raise public awareness about this remarkable collection of interviews.
